Peters Township Approves Funding Applications and Contracts

Board of Supervisors Meeting Highlights

At its recent meeting, the Peters Township Board of Supervisors took several actions regarding grant applications and contracts.

Grant Applications

Health and Wellness Grant: The board approved an application for a $55,000 Health and Wellness Grant from the Allegheny County Health Department. The grant will be used to fund a community health needs assessment and develop a comprehensive health improvement plan.
Community Development Block Grant: The board authorized the submission of an application for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The grant would provide up to $400,000 for infrastructure improvements in low-income areas of the township.
Washington County Housing Rehabilitation Program Grant: The board approved an application for a grant from the Washington County Housing Rehabilitation Program. The grant will provide up to $18,000 for home repairs and modifications for low-income residents.

Contracts

Fire Protection Services: The board extended the contract with the Upper St. Clair Fire Department for fire protection services for the next three years. The contract includes a cost-of-living adjustment and expands services to include advanced life support and technical rescue.
Animal Control Services: The board awarded a contract to the Washington Area Humane Society for animal control services for the next five years. The contract includes expanded services such as animal adoption support and pet therapy programs.
Engineering Services: The board contracted with GAI Consultants, Inc. for engineering services related to the township's storm sewer system. The contract will include planning, design, and inspection services.
Road Construction: The board awarded a contract to Lindy Paving, Inc. for the reconstruction of Lindsay Road. The project will include repaving, drainage improvements, and the installation of new sidewalks.
Park Improvements: The board awarded a contract to Penneco, Inc. for the construction of new playground equipment at Bird Haven Park. The project will also include new landscaping and seating areas.

Other Business

In addition to the grant applications and contracts, the board also discussed and took action on the following items:

Property Purchase: The board voted to purchase a property on McMurray Road for $410,000. The property will be used for future park development.
Sewage Rate Increase: The board approved a 2% increase in sewage rates for customers of the Peters Township Municipal Authority. The increase is necessary to cover rising operating costs.
Road Closure: The board authorized the temporary closure of Smith Township Road for bridge repairs. The closure will begin on July 5th and is expected to last for three weeks.
Zoning Amendments: The board approved amendments to the township's zoning ordinance to allow for the construction of townhouses in certain areas. The amendments were made in response to a developer's proposal for a new townhouse development.
